About Maayan, founder and designer of Mezoome Designs

Maayan Spigel is the founder and designer for Mezoome Designs. Mezoome Designs started when I was confined to bedrest while pregnant with my second daughter - this gave me the opportunity to site down and start planning how I was going to make my dream come true.
The inspiration behind my designs comes mainly from my daughters, together with my great love for design in general. I try to marry the functionality together with the beautiful! I try to create timeless and classic designs and use high quality materials so that my customers can enjoy these products for many years and they will never feel out of style.
Three interesting facts about me:
1. I'm left handed
2. I love pinterest and can easily get lost in it for hours
3. I live for coffee breaks

"My vision is to create products that incorporate functionality and aesthetics with high quality materials that both children and parents can enjoy for years to come. All of my products share minimalist design that will capture the hearts of the entire family."

In each product there is a family of characters, each with their own name and unique personality:
  • Mr. Mush is a smiley mushroom
  • Wabbit is a very happy little bunny rabbit
  • Owl-e is our wise owl
  • A-corn is a fun little acorn that pops up everywhere
  • Busy-B is a cute spring bumblebee
I hope you enjoy my products as much as I enjoy creating them!

About Mezoome Designs

Whimsical, practical, organic cotton baby bedding and more!
Do you love color, fun prints, playful animals, but find that all organic and eco-friendly products only come in neutrals and lack the fun?
Then you are in the right place. The Mezoome philosophy is that mom's shouldn't have to sacrifice their love of color and design when it comes to baby products. Organic baby products don't need to just be oatmeal or cream colored, but instead can come in fun prints with color bases of coral, turquoise, red and more!

Mezoome products aren't just about color and pattern, but we are also committed to design innovation by creating useful and practical solutions for babies. The Mezoome Wabbit blanket isn't just a baby blanket it is much larger than a standard baby blanket designed to  grow up with the child and become your toddler's favorite bedtime blankie. Another favorite is the Mezoome Pully Mully, a pacifier holder and sensory toy in-one. Not only is the Pully Mully cute it's also practical and of course mom friendly, i.e. machine washable!
Mezoome designs brings whimsy, color, print and pattern to baby products while keeping with our commitment to using only the best eco-friendly materials available that are so important for babies sensitive skin and for the environment.

Who's Who in Children's Fashion? -Bebe Birds

Surprise!  It's not just the little ones making friends on the kindergarten playground anymore.  Anat Biala & Myaan G. Shpigel, creators of the stylish children's brand Mezoome, met while their children played on the schools swing sets.  "For a whole year we were on a 'hi, bye' basis" confided Anat.  But gradually, the two started talking and realized they shared the same passion for design and children's products.  "We found that there was a lack of baby products that were aesthetically pleasing in the local market.  We are not the pink and blue kind of mothers" explains Anat.  Then, fate interviened and both mothers found themselves confined to bed rest while pregnant with their second children.  It was the perfect opportunity to sit down and create a high quality eco-friendly design children's brand made with 100% Egyptian cotton.

Bebe Birds (BB): What's in a name?  Can you share the meaning behind the name Mezoome?

Mezoome: (M) Mezoome in Hebrew means "who's who".  Since starting the company we are constantly asked that question.  We also like the way it sounds.

BB: Bebe Bird loves his Mezoome Wabbit 2 Blanket?  He uses it every night.  Tell us, what do you hope your customers take away from the brand?

M:  We want Mezoome characters (Mr. Mush, A-Cat, Owl-e, Wabbit & Whal-e)to become an integral part of every family that buys our products-from newborn and onwards .  We put a lot of quality resources into our products so that they can e a part of the child's life years to come.  Also, our older kids, who are 4 and 5, love making up stories between the characters.  With help from the wall stickers we were able to keep the kids put while potty training and convincing them to get in the bathtub.  With the bumper for baby bed-the little one's, ages 2 and 1.5 years, love "talking" to them.

BB: How was the experience been creating a brand with a friend?

M:  AMAZING!  It means working with your best friend, while doing the thing you are the most passionate about.  We do everything together-from graphic and product design to picking up our kids from kindergarten.  It's hard to imagine not working together.

BB: I simply LOVE this seasons fashion shoot.

M:  We loved the fashion shot too- we had a great photographer, Efrat Lozanov.  First, we brainstormed with her a few weeks before the shoot to come up with a solid concept.  Our favorite part was creating the back drop scenes.  It was an idea we had for awhile and we finally got to put it to good use.  The most challenging part by far was managing five kids (four of them our own) to cooperate.  We loved the way it turned out-we think it reflects our products in the best way!

BB: Any advice for new entrepreneurs?

M:  Get as much help as you can.  Try to talk with other designers and try to learn from their experience.  Keep your ego outside and get ready for an amazingly bumpy adventure.  Pay your knowledge forward-try and help other designers in your position and from your experience.

BB:  What can we look forward to with Mezoome?

M:  We are in the final steps of creating our summer collection. We are very excited to introduce a new member to our family of characters too, who is quite shy so we will wait before unveiling who she is.  And there will be a few new colors.  Further down the line we plan to broaden our audience and our product range.

"We love what we do" say's Anat. "And hope that anyone coming across our products feel the same." To purchase these beautiful pieces from  Mezoome visit Ima Design Store and use coupon code BebeFreeShip to get free shipping on your order! Happy Shopping!

MEZOOME-DESIGNS

At the Birth and Baby Fair I was introduced to Mezoome-Designs, a line founded 3 years ago by 2 moms in Tel Aviv Israel. The vision of Mezoome is to design “products that incorporate functionality and aesthetics with high quality organic materials that both children and parents can enjoy…”
Mezoome incorporates a family of characters, which have their own name and personality, onto all their products:
·               Mr. Mush is a smiley mushroom
·               Wabbit is a very happy little bunny rabbit
·               Owl-e is our wise owl
·               A-corn is a fun little acorn that pops up everywhere
·               Busy Bee is a friendly little summer bumblebee
Ima Design Imports, the exclusive distributor for Mezoome-Designs sent me the Organic Pully Mully Pacifier Holder and the Wabbit Organic Baby Blanket for review.
The unique Organic Pully Mully Pacifier Holder is a square lovey with a satin tag on each side and a pacifier holder on the top. While your baby sucks on their pacifier, they have the Pully Mully to play with, the textures of the tags keep little fingers busy. The front is a water-based eco-friendly dyed image of Mr Mush. I love the Pully Mully, because it is hard to lose a pacifier with a lovey attached to it but then add to that the entertainment that is provided by the tags and the drool that can be wiped up by the lovey – an all in one organic fun and function for baby.

The Wabbit Organic Baby Blanket is a 2-layered blanket made from high quality natural cotton. This super soft blanket features Wabbit in eco-friendly dyes. The blanket is large enough (32″ x 40″) for a newborn up to a toddler.

I love the characters of because they are not too babyish yet very baby friendly. The colors are basic but vibrant without being too bright. Mezoome-Designs have many other baby products such as stroller liners, sleeping bags, crib sheets etc. I am a huge fan of Mezoome-Designs, their products make great gifts for baby showers or even your own.

Designer of the Week - Mezoome Designs

Well folks, my favourite time of year is almost upon us… a snuggly, cuddly, cosy winter! With that in mind, today I’d like to introduce you to a delightful design duo from Tel Aviv, Israel – Maayan and Anat from Mezoome Designs. I’m particularly enamoured with their winter sleeping bags (also great for transitioning into autumn) and this week I had the chance to try one out for myself…

If there’s one thing that I learnt from this week’s review, it’s that very few things in this world are more adorable than an itty bitty baby bundle wrapped up in a cosy cocoon of Egyptian cotton. I had so much fun cuddling Miss Megan (5 months) in the Mezoome Sleeping Bag that I made three rounds of coffee and used some pre-Easter caramello eggs to entice her mummy to stay a little bit longer!
Here’s the low down on the design… It’s made from eco-friendly 100% Egyptian cotton and is available in four colours (red, brown, light blue and grey). I was especially smitten with the fabulously fun lining which features a selection of woodland creatures. I also love the easy-in-and-out wrap style which has a shape like a gingerbread man and a handy velcro closure. Megan’s mum found it useful for day sleeps and also used it in the car. It’s available for $44USD (with free worldwide shipping)… and did I mention that it has little bear ears on the hood? So sweet!
The verdict… Fun, modern styling to keep your little bug snug.

The Indie Label
Mezoome Designs is a creative project by Anat Biala (mum of two boys, 5 y.o. Jonathan and 1.5 y.o. Yoav) and Maayan G. Shpigel (mum of two girls, 4 y.o. Alona and 1.9 y.o. Michaella). Anat and Maayan met at their children’s kindergarten and one day while they were hanging out at the playground they discovered that they both shared a love for graphics and design.
In 2008, Anat and Maayan they decided to join forces to launch Mezoome and have been happily designing together ever since. Their business name means “who’s who” in Hebrew, which they thought was cute and apt name for their collaboration.
The Creative Mind
Anat and Maayan draw their inspiration from their children and the world that surrounds them. They also love the Scandinavian design aesthetic, which is evident in their current collection.
Anat and Maayan explain, “We always start our design process around our four main characters and brain storm the old fashioned way with a pen and paper. After that we research different colours and textures according to the season and collection. We turn to our favourite design websites for inspiration as well as design books and all the things around us.”
